OUR APPROACH

Iran Rooyan operates three main programs under its stated mission, the Telling Stories, Raising Voices, and Transforming Society Initiatives. Its website serves as the base of operation for carrying out this three-fold approach, serving as a conduit for the collection, creation, and distribution and analysis of information.

 

  • TELLING STORIES - Through this initiative, Iran Rooyan will collect, research, write and share stories concerning the harsh realities and challenges Iranian women and girls face. In addition, Iran Rooyan will feature stories highlighting the accomplishments of women and girls as they attempt to navigate through the social, cultural, religious and legal parameters within Iranian society. In ‘telling’ these stories, Iran Rooyan will provide analysis of key indicators that contributed to the story such as geography, economics, and education, social and cultural values. These stories will not only raise awareness of the different conditions and challenges facing the women and girls of Iran, they also help identify needs and entry points for solutions.

 

  • RAISING VOICES - This initiative will use the narratives and stories of Iranian women and girls to draw the international community’s attention to the condition of women and girls in Iran. The Raising Voices Initiative will engage in the planning and development of conferences, seminars, advocacy campaigns and training programs for policy makers, journalists, NGOs and decision-makers in order to ensure that the challenges and successes of Iranian women and girls are presented to the international community and institutions, effectively strengthening their capacity to address these issues. The Raising Voices Initiative creates the space for international and national NGOs, think-tanks, journalists, and decision-makers to get a more concrete and comprehensive picture of the plight of women and girls in Iran in various socio-economic, religious, and ethnic sectors of society.

 

  • TRANSFORMING SOCIETY - Iran Rooyan will engage in careful and strategic collaborations with like-minded organizations that run grassroots and capacity building programs in Iran, creating evaluation mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of their field work in Iran. Iran Rooyan will create educational, training and capacity building material for use and application for the organizations on the ground in Iran.

The strategic advantage of Iran Rooyan is the wealth of field work expertise and experience, academic scholarship, subject matter expertise in the culture, religion, and language of the region, and the engagement of its founders in social action, and their continuous contact with women’s rights activists, social economic development projects, and scholars within Iran. This contact provides Iran Rooyan with the opportunity to have direct knowledge of the grass roots developments and conditions in Iran, and allows Iran Rooyan to determine and assess the needs and priorities of Iranian women and girls.
